I just released the first 4 novels in the Socialite series. The first one, Socialite 1 Book 1: Bees to Benny is only $0.99 at Kindle store. If you like the first one, try the other 3. Each book includes 2 songs integrated into the story, and I plan on releasing the music in 2012. There are also more Socialite books to come in 2012.

Sparrows 405 Reads AuthorBook
How I came to write SPARROWS

I saw ‘her’ on the day I visited a museum in New York City. Absentmindedly, I had turned into a semi darkened room, leaving my tour guide, and the habitual knot of fellow sightseers.

Before me, was an exhibit of stark sepia photographs depicting scenes within the Warsaw Ghetto, Poland; taken by a Nazi soldier, Sgt. Heinz Jost during the mid years of the Second World War.

Strolling between these large, wall-mounted images, I was moved by the stark reflections of suffering; small ragged children begging for food or sleeping on the sidewalks, hunched adults in doorways, their gaunt faces expressing hopelessness as they watched their loved ones become the deportation truck’s human cargo. But the most haunting image was of a young woman. She wore a summer dress and was seated on the ground, her head tilted, resting against a stone pillar. Her back faced the camera, so you could only see her slender neck and dark hair draped over one shoulder. She was quite dead, for in front of her was a waiting lime pit, a large one, where many dead souls had already been dropped.
As I stared at the photograph, I noticed other patrons pausing at the picture before moving on, but I could not leave her. In some strange way, I felt that I owed this woman something; something more than just my sympathy for the loss of her young life. A notion flashed in my mind; I wanted to give her a life, albeit a fictional one; a story began to formulate, I would call her Anna.

I have often wondered over the years why ‘Anna’s’ photograph had such an impact on me. The answer, I believe, is a summation of all the horrors depicted in those photographs on display and, of all the other violence that the Nazis wrought many decades ago.

I have called my novel Sparrows because they symbolize freedom. These tiny birds are not constrained by the shackles of man, as elements of this story refer. For example, they fly unchallenged though the tangled barbed wires of the Nazi stockades, as the condemned human prisoners watch with envy.

Books by David Ayer 414 Reads AuthorBook

I decided to self-publish about ten years ago after I had been very ill and nearly died. I thought that I could go on for ever sending manuscripts to publishers, just to be told that they were up to their eyes in manuscripts and couldn't look at mine at the moment.

Dark Waters 397 Reads AuthorBook

An epic, fantasy story filled with adventure, romance, and humour so dark it scares shadows

Egan Wey is a pirate, a scoundrel and the luckiest son of a... female canine that ever braved the ocean. A scarred past forces his mouth to the bottle and he is drawn to trouble like... well like he is drawn to the bottle. He does bad things for men who would rather not get their hands dirty, but one fateful night, in the corner of a lowlife's tavern he is offered a job by Finn Fernwick, a young priest, that will not only challenge his skills but stretch his sanity to breaking point.

What begins as a fairytale rescue quickly decays into a nightmare of epic proportion as Wey and Finn combat zombies, privateers and a psychotic, despot prince. Can two men really save the world from drowning around them? Or will they drag every sorry excuse for a scallywag into the depths with them?
